A Brief History of the Toilet (via Scientific American)

Any student of history is well aware of the significance that innovation in sanitation has helped society to move forward. Human waste is one of the greatest purveyor’s of disease amongst human populations. Advances in sanitation engineering (the ability to remove and safely dispose of human waste) are directly connected to growth in population, lower rates of infant mortality, overall public health, and even the wealth of societies and communities.

Today, Scientific American highlights the evolution of the toilet. Read more about the development of this important, but ill-appreciated fixture in “A Brief History of the Toilet” with an accompanying slide show.
