Construction Project Yields Bones in Deadwood

Wild Bill Hickock

A construction project in Deadwood, South Dakota (most famous as the location of murder of Wild Bill HIckock and the HBO Mini-series of the same name) has yielded a cache of skeletal remains. The site appears to be the home of a 19th century cemetery. Work has been halted while archaeologists investigate the remains. The settlement was boomtown in the 19th century, readily falling off in population and production after the town was ravaged by smallpox and mining interests dried up.
