Social media does have its advantages and disadvantages, too many to name. For example, this type of computer mediation doesn’t enhance by any margin, the structure of sentences associated with grammar–English. This includes the student interplay that I prefer in classroom settings too. That’s just one disadvantage. Another one is, there’s NO human connection via social media/networking or the like. I’m traditional in many ways and human interaction when it comes to connecting with people, including family is my number one preference.
As for the advantages of social media, well here I am blogging… This form of communication, along with skping, facebook, or such like reaches people… far beyond the average telephone call. Interesting post. Thank you.

Thanks for your response. I would put out there that social media does allow us to interact with people that we normally wouldn’t talk to or sometimes even know. I have developed some amazing professional networks via social media that otherwise would not be accessible to me.
But you are right, there are many downsides as well.
